AZD (pronounced “Azid”) is the fifth studio album by British electronic musician Actress (Darren Cunningham). It was released on 14 April 2017.

Consistent with the artists tradition of being vague with album title and concept as to not create pre-conceived ideas behind its meaning, AZD seems to focus on a central concept of ‘chrome’ associated sound. This may represent human dissociation through the correlation of futurism and having cold qualities. This album is also energetically much different from previous work, with a higher vibration and avoiding darker, gloomy tones.

Sitting more comfortably in the club scene, this style of experimental techno can be quite transcendental, forcing the listener inwards on a soothing beat laden journey. Tracks go from tranquil and almost ambient, to tortured with twisting pitch shifts and crackling interference creating an album which is deeply provoking and otherworldly.
