Dio – Killing the Dragon 20th Anniversary LP Vinyl Record (Red & Orange Swirl Vinyl)
Killing the Dragon is the ninth studio album by the American heavy metal band Dio. Originally released May 21, 2002 through Spitfire Records, BMG have gone back into the Dio back catalog and remastered long out of print studio albums from 1996-2004 on 180g black vinyl.
Killing the Dragon introduces guitarist Doug Aldrich to the band. Doug Aldrich had previously performed with Burning Rain and subsequently went on to join Whitesnake. Previous guitarist, Craig Goldy, co-wrote some of the songs on Killing the Dragon before leaving the band (for the first time.) Killing the Dragon is also the groups final album with bassist Jimmy Bain.
The album itself is full of symbolism, particularly with the title track ‘Killing the Dragon’, to which in an interview on the TV show Uranium, Dio stated that the “dragon” of the album title refers to technology. He expressed concern with it threatening society in the future and elaborated that the track refers to “those who perpetrate injustices and what the world is doing to stop them. In fantasy tales, dragons were notorious for stealing children and feeding them to their babies.” He also expressed belief that the computer has become a god in modern society. “It is a small god with an electrical heart… It is time to rebel against it.”
