Released in 2018, Ruins is the fourth studio album by the Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit.

Influenced by Klara Söderberg’s relationship which ended before the album’s recording, this album acts as a diary for all of the group’s thoughts and emotions to flow freely amongst acoustic sounds and hypnotic melodies. Lyrically and sonically, Ruins helps First Aid Kit give listeners a mature, realised and often heartbreaking version of this young band’s oeuvre.

Tracks such as “Rebel Heart” the album’s opener documents a love doomed from the start. “It’s A Shame” the lead single is a plea to live in the moment because everyone disposes of each other eventually. On “Postcard” and To Live A Life,” you feel the breath-stealing weight of despair when a shattered love leaves you bereft of hope. “Fireworks” introverts the blame with self-loathing. No human emotion is left unnoticed and explored on this album.
