As the head of the Order of the Istari, Saruman the White was tasked with orchestrating the defence of Middle-earth against the resurgence of the Dark Lord Sauron. Two centuries before the War of the Ring the pale Wizard was given the keys to Orthanc, an ancient tower of black stone ringed by a mighty wall at the foot of the Misty Mountains. Within this fortress he made his home, sitting upon a great carven throne.

Gary Hunt of Weta Workshop has expertly captured Saruman in a seated pose, concentrating on his intense communication with Sauron. Starting with a digital sculpt, Hunt transitioned to plasticine over the 3D printed form to capture the nuances of the carved obsidian. Made from high-quality polystone, the 1/6th scale limited edition statue measures over one metre tall, depicting the iconic ally-turned-villain seated upon his blackened throne with his Palantir in hand. Every aspect of this statue has been carefully considered, from the masterful sculpting to the expert paintwork, resulting in an incredibly realistic depiction of both the villainous wizard and the throne upon which he sits.

It takes hundreds of hours to design, sculpt model make, mold, and paint the prototype for each new Middle-earth piece. Whether it be a prop replica, beautiful environment or iconic character, Weta Workshop treat their collectibles with the same level of care and attention to detail that they bring to their film work. Weta Workshop was intrinsically involved in the design and manufacture of physical effects for all three films.
